The Gailes course is actually the second course of the Glasgow Golf Club, which
is based at Killermont to the north of the city of Glasgow.
Glasgow Gailes golf course was opened in 1892. The current course layout was completed
by Willie Park in 1912 and presents a challenging links. It is both a tough course
to play and traditionally Scottish in style, with the typically undulating fairways
of links golf.
The first professional tournament held at Glasgow Gailes was for prize money of
£40 and attracted leading players of the time including Tom Morris, Willie Auchterlonie
and Ben Sayers.
