In an area of predominantly links courses, Longniddry golf course offers an
enjoyable combination of parkland and links golf. The first half of the
course is tighter and more enclosed, but after the 11th the holes are open
to the often westerly wind.
The course is not long by modern standards, but is designed to reward the
strategic player. The lack of par 5's for men is more than made up for by eight
par 4's of over 400 yards. The fairways are fairly generous but the penalty for
straying off-line can be quite severe. Bunker hazards are formidable here as is
the thick rough grass, while the greens tend to be fast.
Longniddry is a former venue of the British Seniors and a qualifying course for the
British Open Championship when held at Muirfield. It is a very enjoyable course to include
in a golf tour on east coast of Scotland.
